This was a wonderful partnership with the PTA at Spring Branch Middle School. And just as important as the coats received is the PTA's willingness to work jointly with Emilio Herrera, the CIS Project Manager, to serve SBMS students and parents.

I agree, gowerbb! All of the city affiliates can certainly learn from one another. We have the research that shows what has worked very well in the past and how to move forward. A strong national organization makes us all stronger and better at what we do!

CIS of Houston is very fortunate to be part of a strong national organization. National CIS is trying to assure that all affiliates have the highest quality programs possible and are also focusing on their responsibilities to strengthen the many local programs around the country. The Houston program has been strong for a long time, so that it would be easy to think that it did not need much guidance. But being part of a high quality national group is much better than being a single, isolated, strong program. And, with the meaningful efforts currently underway by National CIS, we can all expect continued outstanding results at keeping children in school and improving graduation rates.

What a fabulously written post. I am a former CIS social worker, a parent, a PTO board member at an HISD public school and an active community member in the Heights! I talk up CIS on a daily basis with people from all walks of life and have mobilized affluent community members to in the Heights to donate to students at Reagan HS each Christmas for the last 3 years. One thing that has helped me get to these people were contacts with PTO's and online forums of moms and mom blogs. I'd love to help with this endeavor! If only you had a part-time position in your development dept.! I work in the mornings, from 8-12, but would love to host a table if it is after 12pm and before 3pm. I LOVE CIS!
